Empowering Your Journey to Healing and Growth
I am here to help you gain new insights into your life. Together, we will identify the negative beliefs and narratives that may be contributing to your current challenges. My goal is to lessen emotional pain and empower you to move forward in your life with greater confidence. My approach is trauma-informed, neurodiversity affirming, and respectful of sexual orientation. I firmly believe you have the capacity to overcome challenges and pursue the life you desire. I will collaborate with you to pinpoint past events that still affect you and use therapies like IFS and EMDR, along with other techniques, to relieve emotional, physical, and cognitive distress.
With a friendly and empathetic attitude, I provide a safe space where you can share your story without judgment. Each person’s journey is unique, and we will proceed at a pace that feels comfortable for you. I look forward to supporting you on your path to wellness.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist who sees people in person in Orangeville at the Carley Rawes Centre and online across Ontario. I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Guelph, and a Certificate in Children’s Mental Health from Fleming College. Before embarking on my career in psychotherapy, I spent many years working in the environmental consulting industry.
My approach to therapy is person-centered and integrative. I genuinely believe that you are the expert in your own life, and I view my role as a guide, helping you move toward finding peace.
I combine various therapeutic approaches as appropriate for your situation, including:
Person-centred therapy: A compassionate and non-directive approach that prioritizes your experiences and feelings.
Internal Family Systems (IFS): A gentle approach that explores various facets of your internal system to foster insight and facilitate healing.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): A step-by-step approach that helps individuals process and heal from trauma.
Narrative Therapy: Approach that involves identifying and reshaping personal narratives
Through this integrative lens, I aim to provide a flexible and individualized approach to therapy that suits your individual personality and unique life experience in a way that feels supportive and empowering. My goal is to create a safe and nurturing environment where you can freely explore your thoughts and emotions.
IFS
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic approach that views individuals as having various parts or aspects within themselves, each with its own characteristics and functions. These parts can be in harmony with one another or in conflict, influencing our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. The goal of IFS therapy is to help individuals understand and integrate these parts, leading to internal harmony and self-healing. By exploring and addressing these various aspects, individuals can cultivate greater self-awareness, self-compassion, and overall psychological well-being.
You can learn more about IFS at the IFS Institute website.
“IFS is a loving way of relating internally (to your parts) and externally (to the people in your life), so in that sense, IFS is a life practice, as well. It’s something you can do on a daily, moment-to-moment basis—at any time, by yourself or with others.”
EMDR
EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a type of therapy that helps people process and heal from traumatic experiences. Once a treatment plan has been developed and you are ready, I will guide you through recalling distressing memories while you follow my finger movements or listen to alternating sounds. This helps your brain reprocess the memories, reducing their emotional charge and making them feel less overwhelming. In essence, EMDR aims to transform how you think about and respond to past traumas, enabling you to move forward in a more regulated way.
You can learn more about EMDR at the EMDRIA website.
“Changing the memories that form the way we see ourselves also changes the way we view others. Therefore, our relationships, job performance, what we are willing to do or are able to resist, all move in a positive direction.”
